In Unit 3 we learn about managing classes, using eye contact to maintain discipline, and keep all students involved in the classroom. We are also enlightened about using gestures which I also believe is really important especially in online teaching because it really helps to make students understand the language. This is also where I believe adding pictures and letters also help to teach the beginning students specially, the vocabulary. Another part that was really important in this lesson for me was voice because varying the voices really helps the student pay attention and create an exciting class. Often times I also see in online classes, when I use the mini boards, the children are very excited to look at my drawings and often time they will get a paper and pencil or marker to begin drawing which helps them retain the language and remember what they are learning because they love to draw it out. It gets the students involved especially when doing lessons with individual students. What I need to work on after reading this lesson, I thought, was on using simple language to give instructions and also being consistent often times I get students who understand instructions without me saying much but occasionally there are some students that don't understand and it becomes a challenge to give them clear and simple instructions that they can understand. But that is where using visual clues or props can come in handy. Over all unit three helped me realise some points we can tweak in our teaching improve the class and manage it so it establishes a good rapport with the students and we get through the lesson smoothly.
