Reading and listening and speaking and writing are the four basic skills in learning a language. You can read for a purpose or entertainment. You can read by scanning, to get detailed information, predict content from a headline, skimming, and deduct the meaning of words from their context. Problems can be addressed by pre-teaching vocabulary. The teacher should be aware of the students' abilities when choosing authentic and non-authentic materials. Authentic texts are more difficult because they are not designed for student levels. The topics chosen should be interesting to the students. The teacher should understand the interests of the students in order to be able to choose fun topics. The tasks chosen should not be too easy or difficult. After engaging the students, the teacher uses the study phase. The students can read the text, answer questions and go over what they don't understand. At the end of the class they can write their own text and share it with other students.
