From this lesson, I've learned the phonology of English from three areas:stress, rhythm and intonation. Also, I've got a general idea of the International Phonetic Alphabet and its use in helping students to understand the pronunciation of English. From intonation part, I've learned, intonation carries the message in a sentence. The normal pattern of intonation in a statement is the rise/fall intonation which usually shows the person has finished what he/she wants to say. If the sentence is with a final rising intonation which indicates that the speaker wants the person to whom he's speaking to respond or to confirm or he hasn't finished what he has to say.For stress part, I've learned only the vital syllables in the words conveying the essential information are stressed. Auxiliary verbs are rarely stressed, articles, pronouns and prepositions are normally unstressed.Apart from above, I've learned the International Phonemic Alphabet is based on British English. Also, I've reviewed the Phonemic Symbols and the Articulation.
