The conditionals are used to talk about real or unreal situations. Real Conditional describes real-life situations. Unreal Conditional describes unreal, imaginary situations. Teaching conditionals for ESL students can be difficult because the native languages of the ESL students approach conditionals in different manners. Conditional forms should be introduced to students once they are familiar with the basic past, present and future tenses. When teaching conditionals teachers should focus on eliciting their formation and usage as well as come up with some interesting ideas on how to practice conditionals and incorporate in student's speech naturally. Reported speech is a very rich grammar area to teach because it involves considerable changes of verb tenses, patterns, pronouns questions, time expressions, etc. So, it should be taught gradually as students progress through the levels. The best way to start teaching it is to contrast it to the direct speech first.
