In this unit, unit 4 "Vocabulary, Grammar, and Functions," I learned specific things students need to know and how to form my lesson plans based on what they need to know. What stood out to me is how I can choose the vocabulary list. I can use the 4 factors TEFL gave me in determining how easy/difficult a vocabulary word is. For instance, "Is the word similar to the student's native language and the English words they already know? Is it difficult to spell and pronounce? Is it appropriate to the student and will he use it in every day life when trying to communicate?" I also liked the typical ESA vocabulary lesson using household furniture as this is immediately applicable to my own students; I will surely use this as one of my own lesson plans and adapt it to the level and readiness of my students. I think one of my biggest challenges with this lesson unit was to decipher which activities should and should not be used in one of the three lessons: Vocabulary, Grammar, and Functions lessons and their subcategories of engage, study, and activate. I will need to refer to my notes when forming my lesson plans.
