This unit is about the different factors involved in organizing and managing a class so that effective learning and teaching takes place. It covers gestures, voice control and the use of eye contact to get attention, build rapport, ensure understanding and ensure discipline. This unit covers why behavioral problems occur and what I can do to ensure that it does not occur or escalate. This unit is about a teacher being professional, fair, courteous and self disciplined. These are important because a teacher is a model of how to behave and has high standards and expectations. For example, he/she should give every student equal attention, not letting any student dominate. The advantages and disadvantages of seating arrangements and grouping of students are two areas that are covered within this unit. I learned more about teacher talk so that I can reflect on my current practice ie talk less and aim for simplicity so that the students have more time in the Activate stage. Yes, I have learned from this unit.
