This unit covered a small variety of issues that didn't fit neatly into other units such as what to do during your first class with students, challenger of large classes, reluctant students or mixed ability students.
In this unit I found the mixed ability and large group sections particularly interesting, as I am often faced with classes of 40 odd students ranging in spoken ability from nearly none, to intermediate. The section on class size included content I often use (group work, using the large number of students to mine for interesting or amusing ideas)as well as things I had not thought of, like having group leaders to minimize paper hand out time and increasing drilling time so at least everyone is engaged.
The mixed ability section similarly had a mix of things I have used and ones I haven't thought of. In the setting I'm in, applying different content to different students is frowned upon, even between the different ability streamed classes, but by using the same content with higher or lower level tasks between different competence levels I may be able to allow higher level students to practice more complicated structures and useful conversational techniques while lower level students practice more foundational tasks.
