Wow, I didn't realize how confusing this was until i actually had to think about it and explain it. I used to think the tense was past tense when I used auxiliary verbs as used in this unit. Now I see that if they actions are tied to the present, it is then considered a present tense. I also find the differences between Present Continuous and Present Perfect Continuous very nuanced. The biggest difference for me being that the Present Perfect Continuous focuses more on the time spent on the action rather than the action itself. One might be prompted to then reply, "Oh, you've done that for a long time!" This will help me show the difference to the person/people I'm teaching.
