This Unit taught me what makes up a good teacher and a good student. It gave me examples of each and helped me understand the concept. It also explained to me in depth the differences between young learners and adult learners. Young learners are more likely to have a shorter attention span but do not have any ideas regarding how teaching should be done. With the young students, they will be more open about learning and speaking the language due to lack of nerves but the teacher will be unable to discuss complex topics with them. Adults, however, already have an extensive schooling background and may have a set idea of how teaching should be done. They will be more nervous in speaking the language due to the fear of failure but the teacher will be able to create a relationship with them since they are closer in age. It also taught me the different roles a teacher may use in a classroom setting ranging from Manager who takes complete control of the class to Monitor who maintains a distance from the class and lets them learn the language themselves. Lastly, this unit taught me the different stages of learners from Beginner to Advanced. I believe this will be useful when teaching because I will know the degree of their language capabilities and plan my classes accordingly.
