Dear Sir/ Madam:
First of all, Unit 1 greatly describes the characteristics of a good teacher and different roles of the teacher in class. I totally agree that we should care about our teaching but care even more about our students' learning. Unit 1 was very helpful for me in finding out more roles that teacher does play during the class. Honestly, I had a feeling that I am different on each stage of the lesson, I just didn't know what are the right words to describe this different me. Now I know- they are my roles. Can't wait till the class management unit to learn more about which role to take and when!
Secondly, Unit 1 describes characteristics of a good learner, how learners' behaviour, language awareness, learning experience, motivation, life experience, nervousness differ from age to age and influence the class and the progress. To tell you the truth, that was extremely useful for me. With this knowledge I am able to feel my students much more better and be more careful while choosing the speed I speak to my students.
Then it goes the very exact description of each language level and how can students' background influence their progress. I am teaching in China, and totally agree that students' culture and first language must be concerned by the teacher to plan the classes and lead them to the progress.
Finally, the 6 levels of The Common European Framework recently established by the Council of Europe states were absolutely new to me.
I totally enjoyed the content of Unit 1 including the short informative video.
