This unit is about teaching new language, vocabulary, grammar and functions.
There are four things that students need to do with a new language, be exposed to it, understand its meaning, understand how it's constructed and be able to practise and produce it.
The students should be introduced to a new language in a balanced and manageable way, to achieve this we can apply the ESA method, for example, in grammar or vocabulary lessons we can use the "straight arrow" ESA approach, and for function-based lessons the "boomerang" or "patchwork" ESA structures, but we need to remember that this is certainly not a rule.
As teachers we need to think about which one is the most appropriate for the class and for the language that will be introduced, keeping in mind the level of our students.
I think it's very important to have different activities for each phase: Engage, Study and Activate, so our classes can be fun, productive and successful.
