The methodologies introduced were both familiar and new, since I have taken ESL classes. I found it interesting to see that audio-linguistics with repetitive drills had been dropped in teaching practice, except in some low level classes. In the study, I could imagine the weakness of suggestopelia, and community language circles for beginning levels. Also, I remembered that the teacher should elicit previous knowledge of students, but found Harmer's examples to be very thorough to promote student discovery, and participation to bring them into the lesson's point. For example, gap (fill in the blanks), target questions, comparisons, mime, and role play are useful at different levels of learners.I appreciated the activate stage to allow the students to use language freely, focusing on fluency, not accuracy. I thought the role playing, communication games, and story writing would release much feedback for teacher's evaluation. I found this unit to be very helpful, thorough, and applicable for instruction methods.
