Unit 5 is loaded with some very practical information and advice for successful classroom management -- from the importance of the teacher's voice and body language to how to build rapport and deal with any discipline issues.
The topics in this unit, I think, would be best supported with real-life teaching practice. (Which is not part of this online course, of course.) I am happy that I already have experience in the classroom so that I can assume how I could apply, and recall how I did apply, some of these techniques.
My intent now is to move into online teaching. This unit gets me thinking of how eye contact will play out when I am, as the teacher, reduced to a small window in the corner of an app. Clearly, voice and calculated gestures will play more important roles. I expect online management of a class of 1-4 students to be less challenging than, say, managing a class of 20. Although, clearly most of the techniques and advice outlined in unit 5 will still apply.
