Teachers should have an interested in a wide variety of topics and be willing to listen others interests, even if they don't find it interesting. The importance of not forcing your own interests on students and getting to know the students interests is key, I think, to establishing good rapport. Students will feel they are recognised when a teacher bases a lesson on their interests and could in turn encourage student participation but also learn them to respect other students interest even if they don't find it interesting. On a personal note, I think choosing material for receptive skills training is challenging especially if the teacher find beginner level texts boring and they must try to make it interesting for their students and themselves.
