Unit 5 emphasizes the application of the ESA structure to lesson planning. I strongly believe that a well organized lesson plan is crucial to maintaining the respect and rapport of students. If the students feel like the teacher is disorganized or improvising then they will not see a clear purpose to the lessons and their participation will likely dwindle. However, if each module of learning has continuity then the students will recognize that there is a "big picture" plan to the lessons and they will need to keep up. Unit 5 required more interpretation and referencing back to Unit 2. One aspect of the unit test that I was unsure of was the order of the ACTIVATE phase. In my opinion, class discussions are often very lively and a highlight for the students and myself alike. Therefore, I was unsure of whether or not the discussion should come before or after the survey was completed by the students. I will find out when I submit the test.
