This unit is about teaching pronunciation and phonology, an effective teacher considers the teaching of pronunciation as an integral part of the course.
Phonology is the study, science and analysis of the physical properties of sounds, it has different areas: Stress (word that bears the principal emphasis in the sentence), rhythm, and intonation (considered to be the variation in volume and pitch in a whole sentence).
The phonemic alphabet: One of the most important skills when using this alphabet is to forget about the way a word is traditionally spelled and focus only on the sounds you make when saying a particular word. Find the symbol that produces each individual sound and put them together to form the phonetic spelling.
As a foreign teacher I found really important to have different techniques to teach these subjects to the students because they can be really confusing and complicated, but if we do it properly and having in mind the level of our students they can learn them well, we need to build in our classrooms a trustworthy environment so the students can feel confident to talk and practice the language.
It was very interesting to watch the video of the teacher teaching the phonemic alphabet with a variety of activities, games, tongue twisters, etc. Something I would like to point out is that he was smiling and having a positive attitude the whole time even though it was a difficult subject to teach.
