Unit 1 has taught me that a teacher has many roles and must know when to use them in a classroom. The role largely depends on the age of the students, the type of activity and goals for the class to achieve. For example, when students are taking a long time to complete a task, a prompter role can help facilitate the children to continue with a task, without directly telling them the answer and allowing them to continue to think of it themselves. I have learnt that in Asian countries children are quite serious and respectful to teachers but lack creativity and confidence to speak up, so the teacher needs to inspire the children with creative and fun lessons. I have also learnt that there are 6 levels of language proficiency: Beginner, Elementary, Low/pre Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced. With Lower Levels, teaching is mainly visual with quick progress easy to observe. While higher levels have high motivation but may feel they cannot progress any further, so the teacher must ensure they feel they are still learning new material and mastering the language further.
