This unit discussed the use of authentic and created materials. Authentic materials such as programs, brochures, magazines, songs, poems or videos. They are more interesting than coursebook, allows students to gain confidence when they understand the materials, and can be geared to the interests of particular groups of students. Created materials such as crosswords, role=play cards, picture stories, word search puzzles, are easier for beginning teachers and students. They are easier and less time consuming for the teacher, and normally are balanced with a mix of aims: grammar, vocabulary, skills work. They provide continuity and progressive skills that are tried and tested, and usually have some supplemental material-workbooks. The created materials should not be used for the whole lesson, but are good for practice study stage. I learned that one must look at difficulties in the students through feedback such a verbal dialogues, not assume they have learned it by filling in the printed exercises. One must learn to supplement the created materials.
