Aside from the content, I believe classroom management is the most important thing to have down in a classroom. If there is no established structure to the classroom, there are no expectations. When there are no expectations, things can get out of hand easily.
Being in "control" of the class does not mean the instructor takes on the role of a dictator. Rather, the instructor is able to manage the class in different ways. Sometimes control takes as little as walking around the classroom, other times it is giving explicit instructions to the whole class. Nonverbal communication is also just as important
Classroom management is not only the things you do to ensure order, but the attitude you display externally as well as the one you hold internally. If you do not like your job, it's going to show. Students know when their teacher is engaged or not. It's important to constantly check the attitude behind your instruction. Is your mindset in the right place? If not, go back to why you are doing this. Focus on the students learning English, this is the ultimate goal. Building rapport is essential. It builds trust between the teacher and student and students will be quicker to forgive and lean into instruction.
