The two videos were useful to compare and contrast non-effective and effective teaching skills. The first lesson was absent of engaging stage and left the students trying to catch up with instructors quick, unclear speaking. He pointed to students rudely, and called on only a few students. He used grammar without the context for its usage in understanding. He asked students to pronounce word but not in a phrase of context. He was very teacher centered, and didn't promote practice of the target language. His attitude from beginning to end, was to rush through the steps of lesson to get through, without caring for the students.
In contrast, the second lesson, the engage activity was eliciting prior knowledge of animals in the zoo. He used the same structure, with strong eliciting skills throughout the lesson, writing on the board use the gap fill in, that students could write effectively as they listened. The partner work in the study stage gave them practice to speak with one another as they wrote on their worksheet. The activate stage was strong with the use of bingo sheet. He modeled and elicited the questions and answers effectively giving them confidence to perform the group activity. He also worked on pronunciation chorally, effectively. This lesson was very effective in listening, speaking, reading, and writing the target language.
