This section opened by outlining the basic needs of a student for the teaching process to succeed: students should be exposed to as much language as possible; some teacher feedback is needed, and so forth. Then several very dfferent methods of teaching are listed, along with descriptions of the benefits and drawbacks of each one.
The main theory or method of TESL is E.S.A. or Engage, Study, Activate and this combines elements of many of the earlier forms within it as well as forms the basis for several variations upon itself. This method is then discussed in detail; each of the three parts have many specific and general examples provided, and the pattern of the three together can be varied as long as the desired effect of optimal learning is sought.
Then a brief discussion of how and when a teacher should correct the students follows, including simple symbols for correcting papers or worksheets.
