In this unit I have learned how to be a good educator and how to build my students as good learners. By connecting the criteria of good teacher and the criteria of good learner, we can understand that the synergy between teachers and students is required. I have been a teacher for 5 years, and I think being a prompter is the difficult one. Some learners are difficult to understand a particular topic and they really need our support to get our clear explanation. We can't be a promoter for all the time, especially when we teach Physics and mathematics. I am a Physics and mathematics teacher, and while I gently encourage the students, they were getting confused with the formulas and the calculations. It's still become a challenge for me to be a prompter in Physics and math class. I really enjoy to keep switching my role. Teachers in Indonesia have "extra role", that is "teacher as a customer service". In my culture (Indonesian Culture), parents are easily getting worried about their children achievements. Sometimes I must help them to build their trust to their kids and build the self esteem of my students.
I work in the international school. Most of my students are intermediate until advanced English speakers. I sometimes struggled to listen to their various dialect. Speaking with students who have Singlish or Indian English is my struggled. Their English pronunciations are unique and a little bit difficult to understand, but I respect their culture while at the same time I try to become a good role model of Proper English speaker. Their Various English accents really bring to the enrichment. I really give thank on them. I hope I can be better in making them confident to learn physics and math.
