This unit is about teaching receptive skills, "reading and listening", there are four skills in any language: receptive skills (reading and listening) and productive skills (speaking and writing), all are equally important.
To create a balanced approach we need to try and incorporate all of them into our lessons.
The reasons for reading and listening are: For a purpose (it will help us achieve some particular goal or aim) and for entertainment (we find it pleasurable or enjoyable).
Some of the ways we read and listen are: Predictive skills, scanning, skimming, detailed information and deduction from context.
Some ways to approach language difficulties are: Pre-teaching vocabulary, careful selection of texts.
It's very important to motivate the students and engaged them in the tasks choosing correctly the topics, tasks, creating interest, and use properly the ESA phases.
