In this unit, I have learned much about the different approaches to teaching. I am very fond of the ESA method and loved all the ideas presented on different ways to involve students at each level. I really enjoy all the ideas presented for the engage stage, as I find this can be the most challenging stage of class time. Getting the students talking and thinking in English is very important to set a good feel for the rest of class time.
I find it very challenging to keep the class, especially beginner level classes fully in English, so I can't say I agree that this is possible. I am, however, challenged to use my students L1 much less than I currently am.
I have been a student myself and my teacher used a bit of the suggestopedia method and it was quite effective, although I had forgotten about it. I plan to incorporate some of this theory in my class as well as more time using the audio-lingual approach of repetition.
I am really encouraged to keep adding new ideas to my current lesson plans!
