Unit 10 discusses evaluations and assessments in the classroom. It is important to assess the language skills of the students at many different phases of their learning experience. When first beginning a class, it is important that students take a placement test, or a diagnostic test, in order to help sort students based on their preexisting knowledge of the language. This allows the students to then be broken into smaller groups based on their initial language abilities. Throughout the course, it is important for the teacher to periodically give progress tests to see hoe much of the information the students have retained. Many students take language courses with the end goal being to pass an external exam, such as Cambridge assessments or Trinity College London assessments, so many students will take practice exams along with their coursework to help give them a glimpse into what the actual exam will be like.
