This distinctions between the past tenses were a little more difficult in comparison to the present tenses (especially given how they often use each other to create complete sentences). But I'm now clearer about the use of the past perfect tenses. Past perfect is used to talk about the past, in the past. And past perfect continuous is used for actions that continued in the past for a longer period of time (up to the moment we are talking about). The ideas for teaching activities with these tenses seemed pretty sparse.
