Pronunciation and Phonology is the longest unit so far I studied in this course. I'm really happy that I learned how to read phonetics well. I'm still having difficulty with syllables for there are still a lot of words I have to be familiar with. I've learn how to do the rise/fall , fall /rise and flat.There are techniques to indicate teaching intonation such as nonsense words, gesture ,humming,singing and using marks on boards.The topic of stressing is great too.And there are rules to follow such as a there is only one word to stress exception is there could be one but subtle. Also we stress syllables and never vowels /consonants.
Only vital syllables are stressed.
Moreover, there are indications to teach stress and these are contrastive stress, through gesture , chorus,illustration and by marks.
We can teach too pronunciation by joining the sound.There are 4 types these are linking, sound dropping , changing and extra lettering.
Students can be taught of phonemic alphabet but reminded that the typical spelling will be changed and focus only of the sound.
There are phonemic symbols and these are consonant(voiced and unvoiced) , vowels,vowels, and diphthongs .
The topic of articulation is part of the unit and talked about the speech organs,places of articulation and its manner Strategies to teach individual sounds can be done by peer dictation , showing your own mouth when pronouncing , the parts of mouth ,phonemes and tongue twisters .There are areas where you can include teaching pronunciation and these are when teaching it in the whole lesson, particular activity or only when its required.
