This unit covers the different methods that are used by a teacher in a classroom. These include grammar/translation, Audio/lingualism, presentation/practice and production, task based learning, communicative language teaching, community language learning, the silent way, suggestopaedia and the lexical approach. I learnt that which method or combination of methods used will depend on our teaching abilities or style, the student culture and there needs and level of understanding. It is important to give the students a lot of exposure to the language and try to help them feel comfortable and engaged. This unit also covers the ESA or engage, study and activate method of teachingand various techniques and options for each stage. I leant that a variety of techniques should be used in conjuction with each other which helps keep the students engaged. I also learnt the different types of correction techniques, where they should be used during the lesson and how to correct students without discouraging them or embarrassing them.
