By overveiwing all of the methods for teaching English, the unit helped me see the need for a balanced and helpful approach to teaching. I found the ESA method to be a great solution. The many examples of activities in each area really helped me grasp the differences and how you could move through a lesson. I see how the engage activities help to give students opportunities to speak and by making it fun, it is a good preparation for learning. The study activities allow for learning without a lecture. And the activate activities help students put things into practice, so they are a great way to end. I see why they insist on beginning with the engage and ending with activate while giving flexibility between the straight arrow, boomerang, and patchwork flow as needed. There is enough structure to make it useful while giving flexibility to make it interesting.
