Unit 12 Teaching productive skills
Reason why two or more people communicate are; they have the same communication purpose, they want the something, the want to listen to something and they are interested in whats being said. In order to introduce communication activities to the students, he or she should have a number of these reason in the activity or else there will not be any interest by the students.
There is a difference in accuracy activities and fluency activities. Accuracy activities (usually part of the study phase) are concentrated on producing correct language and Fluency activities (usually part of the activate phase) are concentrated on allowing students to experiment and be creative with the language. It is also important to note that accuracy and fluency are equally important.
The speaking activities in the classroom include controlled activities, guided activities and creative communication. Controlled activities are those activities that are controlled by the teacher. The activities include drilling and prompting students. The guided activities are also accuracy based and it includes model dialogues and guided role-play. The creative communication is fluency based and the scenario is created by the teacher but the content is not. Creative communication includes free role plays, discussions, information gap among others things. There may be many reason why student are reluctant to speaking during activities and it is important that the teacher try to overcome those reasons and encourage the students,Teachers should create a comfortable and stress free environment which will encourage students interaction. Some of the techniques used to encourage student interaction are:

?-Controlled and guided practice before fluency activities
?-Make the speaking activities purposeful
?-Change the classroom dynamics
?-Careful planning
In writing activities , the teacher have to pay attention to issues such as punctuation, handwriting, spelling, layout and vocabulary. It is important for students to write with the proper punctuation and their handwriting should also be clear and easily understood. Spelling is another important issue in which the teacher has to address. Teachers have to inform students the rules as it relates to spelling words and especially the difference between American and British English. It is important for students to read a lot which will help in their written English.
