In this unit we talked about the qualities of a good teacher and the kinds of issues that may arise in the class if the teacher lacks certain skills. We also looked at the characteristics of a good learner and the most common reasons why people want to learn foreign languages. Furthermore, we learned about different language levels and how they are assessed. I learned a lot about what it means to be a good teacher. Since I didn´t really think about becoming a teacher in the past, I never realised how many important roles does a teacher have and how different approaches and teaching techniques may influence the students, their motivation and willingness to actively participate in the class. What I found particularly interesting and useful about this unit was the description of different age groups and the difference between young and adult learners. I belive that understanding the strengths and weaknesses of these different groups and individual approach are some of the key elements of effective teaching.
