This chapter is about modal auxiliary verbs, phrasal verbs and the passive voice. Modal verbs give meaning to the main verb. They are words such as can, may, ought, must, etc. Phrasal verbs can be intransitive (meaning no object), transitive separable (meaning a non-pronoun object can go between part of the phrase and still make sense), or transitive inseparable (meaning the object must always come after the phrase). The passive voice is used to indicate that the agent of an action is not important.
