The unit provides information on the qualities of good teachers and their roles which include facilitator, model, manager, organizer, observer, tutor, assessor, prompter, and participant. In order to be a good teacher, you have to try to encourage and maintain the motivation of the learners making the lessons interesting and varied, assessing fairly and equally with sensitivity and establishing a positive relationship with the class throughout the lessons.
A good learner would have a desire to learn, ask good questions and be willing to take a risk in using English. The characteristics of learners are varied depends on age, language awareness, life experiences, motivation, behaviors, learning experiences, cultural background and the level of language ability.
Through the unit, I have learned that motivation and confidence is a foundation for learning a new language for every learner in whatever background and levels. As a facilitator, organizer and assessor, a teacher should be able to bring a relevant context and activities into the classroom through which the students are able to have a great opportunity to learn English effectively and efficiently. A good teacher brings up good learners.
