Unit 4 deals with an introduction to the tense system. There are three different tenses in
English: the past, the present and the future. Each of these times has four aspects: simple, continuous, perfect and perfect continuous. Therefore, the present tenses in English are four: present simple, present continuous, present perfect and present perfect continuous. Each of them has a particular form (affirmative, negative, interrogative) and a specific usage. Some of the most typical errors and mistakes of the students are provided in this unit together with some practical strategies to be used by the teacher during the Activate stage.
Thanks to this unit, I had the chance to review the present tenses and to focus on their main differences in terms of usage. The activate stage teaching ideas offered at this point seem to be useful as they foster the communicative use of the tenses.
