This unit explains how to teach a new language; focusing on vocabulary, grammar and funtions. It outlines factors a teacher needs to consider when teaching these language areas and provides teaching techniques for each area following ESA methods. It points out what students need to know about a vocabulary item, for example, its word grammar, spelling, pronunciation, etc. and provides criteria that can be used when selecting vocabulary; for expample, the frequency of use. Students also need to know the forms and patterns of grammatical structures, their meanings and usages. Besides vocabulary and grammar, students also need to learn about language funtions in areas such as inviting and suggesting and also language appropriacy(formal and informal language). Through this unit, I have learned to write ESA lessons for different levels on vocabulary, gramatical structures and language functions.
