This unit discusses the important, introductory information about learners and teachers. As a teacher, I had a pre-existing knowledge of what a "good" teacher is and the roles of a teacher. However, after studying this unit I learned some new aspects to teaching such as the importance of teacher as "prompter". Although in my classroom I have prompted my students I never did so consciously and going forward I will make a greater effort to be a prompter when necessary. I also learned the differences in adult and young learners, in my past experience I had only taught middle school kids, so learning the strengths and weaknesses of both adult and very young learners was very useful. Finally, and the most important thing I learned in this unit, I learned the "Common European Framework". The reason this is so important to me is because I currently live abroad and plan to teach in Europe over the next several years. Having the knowledge of the six levels in Europe will be very helpful to me.
