Clyde, Ohio TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
This unit teaches about the two productive skills; speaking and writing. Concerning speaking, it points out that the teacher needs to consider the reasons people communicate, e.g. for a purpose or wanting to say something, for a speaking activity to be successful. The teacher must create the desire and need to communicate. It also explains the difference between accurancy and fluency activities and points out that both activities are equally important. It further gives a list of speaking activities that can be used in the classroom. Such activities can be controlled, guided or creative communication depending on the stage of the lesson. Also, it provides techniques that can be used to encourage students to speak in the classroom. Lastly, it provides an example of a typical free/creative speaking lesson and guidelines that can be followed before, during and after a speaking activity.
Though most of the considerations for speaking goes too for writing, there are some differences that seperate the two. When writing text one has to consider spelling, handwriting, layout and punctuation. This unit explains challenges students might face in these areas and gives suggestions on how the teacher can help students improve. Same as creative speaking, students need to have the desire to write, as such the teacher needs to encourage creative writing. An example of a typical creative writing lesson is also provided.
