When studying English, students are as afraid of grammar as teachers. However, if the teacher does not know anything about it, he/she could lose the confidence of the students.
Unit 2 does not provide a complete guide of the whole grammatical system, but it gives an introduction to the English grammar by recognizing and classifying parts of speech.
Nouns, adjectives, articles, verbs, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns, prepositions and conjunctions are all parts of speech. In this unit, each part of speech is firstly described in terms of usage, then explained in details. For example, nouns are used to name people, animals, places, things, qualities and states. They can be of many types: common, proper, compound, abstract and collective. In addition, they can be countable and uncountable.
What I feel I have learnt from this unit is that grammar is the key for a teacher and that, starting from the breakdown of a basic sentence, you can easily teach parts of speech to students.
