This unit presents a variety of teaching theories and methodologies. With them in mind, it moves to explain the ESA format of teaching English: Engage, Study, Activate. In the engage phase it is mainly important to get students thinking and talking in English without emphasis on language accuracy. Then the teacher should deliver the language point of the lesson in the study phase, along with any necessary corrections to improve accuracy. Of course, praise and encouragement should be given throughout. In the activate phase, student should use new language concepts to build fluency, engaging in conversations and activities that allow everyone to practice.
