This unit introduces the pronunciation and phonology. Details go into intonation, stress and the phonetic alphabet. Intonation is fundamental in expressing speakers' emotions or feelings, this unit introduces three basic patterns of intonation, namely rise/fall, fall/rise, and flat. Rules of stress for individual words and sentences are well covered. Phonetic alphabet and the categories are also perfectly illustrated.
The techniques provided in the lesson could be helpful, however, in real teaching, students would find rather confused when hearing those terms. So drilling and imitation can be a good way to teach pronunciation.
