In this unit, we watched two videos, the. The first showed an example of a teacher poorly teaching a lesson and in the second he teaches the same lesson well. In the first example, he does not use an engage phase, does not know all the student’s names, and is negative toward the students when they do not understand or give a wrong answer. He also speaks for the whole lesson, barely giving the students any talking time. In the second lesson his attitude is different. He is open and friendly, he develops a rapport with the class, he gets the students engaged and makes sure that they have comprehended the lesson and instructions before moving on. I also noticed the teachers gestures in the second lesson seemed to be more tailored to the students’ culture. I was reminded of the importance of a positive attitude and praise to encourage class participation and reinforce correct answers. Instead of saying that someone had a wrong answer, he used that answer to demonstrate another of the lesson points.
