In this unit I learned more about teaching vocabulary and grammar structure to students. The ESA format was a review from previous units so I was able to be a bit more creative with my lesson plan ideas when filling out the end-of-unit task sheet. I like to call to mind the way in which I enjoy learning language. These are usually through focusing on the culture of the language and people who speak it. For example, learning new vocabulary through watching a TV show in another language or learning a new verb form by listening and translating a song. A lot of my "lesson plans" began with an Engage activity that involved reading, listening or watching material produced for native speakers. This was a method my Spanish teacher used a lot in high school and which I found very engaging. Instead of learning a list of vocabulary words that all had to do with "food" we would learn words that would then help us read a chapter from Isabel Allende's books. However, this method would be more ideally suited to higher level language learning. For younger students, I would have to modify the Engage activity, perhaps showing a cartoon that is more easily followed visually.
