In this unit I learnt the techniques for teaching a new language. How to teach vocabulary, grammatical structures, and language functions were covered. Students need to understand the language's meaning and construction fully, so they will be able to practice and produce it. I learnt that students generally have a bigger receptive vocabulary than a productive vocabulary. This unit discussed what makes a point difficult to teach, and what vocabulary to select to teach. What a student needs to know about vocabulary points, structures and functions were mentioned. Sample lesson were provided, for teaching the different aspects. I learnt that for teaching grammar and vocabulary it is suggested to use a straight arrow ESA lesson, and for functions it can be better using a patchwork lesson. This unit taught me that a usual lesson will generally only cover one area.
