This unit taught me how to arrange classroom seating, how to utilize gestures and eye contact as well as the pros and cons of different group sizes. This unit stressed the importance of maintaining control of the classroom while allowing plenty of student talk time. As a more introverted person I appreciated that this unit recognized that there are many different styles of teaching. Although I know that "lecture style" teaching will be necessary at times I see myself relying more on pair or small group work. I have observed many different teaching styles through my time as a student. One of the best techniques I observed was when a teacher would participate in pair work in an activity that changed partners every few minutes. She would make her way around the classroom, working with each of us one on one. This allowed her to gauge where each student was, maintain organization of the group as well as keep her students' overall talk time very high. As a teacher myself I would try to emulate this style.
