Reading and listening is an exceptionally important part of learning the English language. If one is only able to speak the language, they are limited to their own vocabulary and understanding. Reading and listening forces the student to use context clues to learn further vocabulary, tenses, and meanings. However, it is important to not overload beginner students with too much difficult vocabulary, as they are not able to use as many context clues. Doing this has the potential to crush the student's motivation and skew the English language for them. Therefore, reading and listening needs to be carefully taught with a combination of activities.
