This was an excellent unit and truly showed the difference and what I have been lacking in understanding between teaching English composition to native speakers, and actually teaching English. I have never heard of most of these methodologies and I really appreciate having these new tools to explore in order to build upon what I already know. I have always believed that to truly be a "master" at a subject one must not only understand the subject, they have to be able to make it so that other people can understand it as well. These different methodologies and practices will be invaluable tools to get my classroom from where it is today, to the next level. It was also great having examples so now I know what more to expect and can begin devising ideas and examples of my own for use in the future. I do not pretend that I fully grasped everything that was presented in this unit, but it was an excellent starting point and now I know what to look up and research more on my own to strengthen my own understanding. I have always been of the school of thought that a teacher has to engage all modes of learning (audio, visual, kinesthetic, and reading) in order to be effective so it was nice to see that validated in the ESA formatting. I also really appreciate the flexibility the ESA model has depending on the skill level and motivation of the classroom. It likely wouldn't be so successful (or appealing to learners or instructors) if it weren't!
