Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
This unit covered the proper ways a teacher should manage a classroom (depending on size). Maintaining eye contact, establishing good rapport between the teacher and students, use of positive gestures/voice can help foster respect between both student and teacher. The unit then discusses the different ways to manage class groups (ie. pairwork, groupwork) and how different types of classroom arrangement can depend on what type of class the teacher has (ie. larger classes are more suited toward orderly rows, while smaller classes do well with circles and horseshoes because it creates intimacy that larger classes cannot have). The unit then goes on about the advantages and disadvantages of teacher talking time (TTT) and when to use it beneficially. Finally, the unit covers how to establish a good rapport with students and how to maintain discipline. Overall, I enjoyed reading this unit, as I've always been worried about potentially teaching a class with unruly students and not being able to maintain control. Also, because I tend to lean on the more introverted side, it was nice to read a chapter about how good teachers do not necessarily have to be extroverted in nature.
