This unit was quite a bit tougher than I thought it would be. While I remembered, understood, and have taught most of the content within this module, I found it difficult to imagine how I would break these concepts down for a non-native speaker to understand. Most of my students in the past have all been born English speakers and so that base was built for me to work from at their elementary levels. ESL students would not have that ready-made base and so I spent most of the module trying to devise how I would explain each of the concepts in a way that someone could understand, and by using examples that everyone appreciates. This is somewhat confounded by the fact that there are so many exceptions to each rule. I would hate to think that one would have to rely on simply memorizing all of the exceptions, but it seems almost futile and entirely overwhelming to be able to explain them all. After reviewing this module, I can absolutely see why someone would find it so daunting to attempt to learn and ultimately master this language. It also gives me even more resolve to do my best and bring the best tools to help someone accomplish those goals.
