I found this Unit particularly hard. Although I learned phonetics at a young age, it was kept simple, this just complicated things. In the end I was able to understand why it is important, and I have always believed anyone learning a new language should learn the accent at best of their ability. Although one may be fluent in understanding a language, unless they have an accent or good phonetics, they are not fluent in speaking the language. I do not understand the importance of learning the Phonemic Symbols. They are very complicated, I was never ever taught them in school, and I feel it will just confuse students learning English. It is not something I will teach in my class. Underling and speaking I believe is just enough.
