I like the ESA approach to teaching ESL, but would work with any subject and with students in Special Education. One of the reason I like this approach is the flexibility knowing that Engage and Activate will always be first and last, respectfully. This unit was filled with an abundant of working examples to engage students for different levels. As a teacher, I have used some of them in various ways. I ways started a class with a "warm-up". Sometimes it was a written prompt on current events or a topic that we have been discussing. I agree that all classes should be student-centered and the activities should allow growth, though I do not necessarily agree with the concept of worksheets.
